Test Week

Last week was test week,we had lots of tests including maths, literacy and reading.
In literacy we were not allowed to use dictionaries to help with spellings which was difficult for some people.
After all the tests we did an activity which involved pictures and patterns based on something we did earlier in the year. Using a ruler to draw straight lines to transform into a curved pattern, we then used thread to make the picture. We are also making bookmarks with our initials sewn onto them.

We also watched two films, The Incredibles and The Sword In The Stone.

LEGENDS

This week we have been writing legends. When writing legends you need a mysterious character, a hero and location, good description and a situation. One of the legends is about a poor boy called Kasaybia. One day he is putting the washing out and he hears lots of weird noises and sees some footprints. Then he sees someone going into the castle so he tries to stop him but he is too late! Kasaybia warns the guards but they don't believe him. He tries to get the stranger himself. He finds a way into the castle, finds some clothes and puts them on so he looks rich and then looks for the stranger. He finally finds him in the jewel room, about to steal the jewels. There is a sword in a stone there, which Kasaybia tries to pull out and it finally comes out. The guards come in and find him with the sword and the stranger. They catch the stranger and the poor man becomes rich because he pulled the sword from the stone.

What a busy week we have had!

What another busy week we have had!
In literacy we have been writing our own stories. Although we could make them up the genra could not be fantasy or magical, so no aliens or wizards allowed. We have already learned about a poet called Pie Corbett, and this week we are studying the poetry of Valerie Bloom.

Last Friday was the Harvest Festival so everyone in the whole school brought in non perishable food to give to the homeless people that go to Julian House. Our school hall looked like a mini supermarket!!!
This Friday it will be Teds Big Day Out. The theme will be flower power and the teachers will be looking forward to seeing your teddy looking flowerlicious.

We've Done TONS already!!

Hi!

This is the 5B blog. This is the first blog of the year. Our topic this term is India and we are finding out about the country, the people and their religion, Hinduism.

This week in literacy we have been finding out about Michael Morpurgo, who is a children's author. The main book of his we have been looking at is the Butterfly Lion. It was about a boy called Bertie who lived in Africa and a lion who was special to him. Also in literacy we have been making up our own stories which was very interesting.

In science we are looking at solids, liquids and gases. We have done two experiments so far. One was all about paper and air resistance. The other was about displacement where we used sand and water to see what happened.

Our art teacher is Mr Baigent and we are drawing around our hands and decorating them with mhendi patterns. They are on display in the upper school corridor.

This year our teachers are Mr Baigent and Mrs Barttlet. This year also the classes also have been mixed up so some of our friends will be in the other class. Most of us think this improves our learning and cool!!

That's all for now but more is on it's way 'cause this is only the first, so look forward to a years worth of 5B blogs!
